We handle palm pruning and removal across the Tweed Coast, Byron Shire and Gold Coast, with a minimum three-person crew on every job.
We’ll safely remove the fronds, pods and palm itself where required, chip and remove the green waste, and clean everything up properly before we leave.

Palms aren’t always the most difficult trees we deal with, but they can make a serious mess.
Fronds dropping onto the roof, seed pods covering the driveway, dead material hanging over the pool or palms getting too large for the space they’re in: it’s easy to put the job off.
We’ll get it sorted in one go.
Depending on the height and access, palms can be climbed or accessed using specialised equipment. Fronds and other material are lowered safely where required, chipped and removed from site.
For removals, we can also grind out the stump so you’re not left with a big palm base taking up space in the yard.
Cocos palms
Cocos palms are a common problem across the Tweed, Byron Shire and Gold Coast.
They’re fast-growing, can spread easily and their seed pods can make a real mess. In some areas, they are also treated as an environmental weed and may be subject to specific local requirements.

02 · How we do it
Safe removal, proper cleanup
- 1 We assess the palm first. We look at the height, condition, access and what's underneath it before deciding on the best method.
- 2 We climb or use specialised equipment where required. The method depends on the height and location of the palm.
- 3 We remove and process everything. Fronds, seed pods and other green waste are chipped and removed from site.
- 4 We can grind the stump. For removals, stump grinding can be included so you're left with a much cleaner area ready for your next garden project.

Pest species & Cocos palm removal
Some pest or environmental weed species can have different removal requirements from protected vegetation.
Where applicable, our AQF Level 3 arborist can identify the species on site and check the relevant Gold Coast requirements before work begins.
Cocos palms and other pest species
Cocos palms are a common environmental weed on the Gold Coast and may be subject to specific pest-species management provisions.
If you believe you have a Cocos palm or another regulated pest species, we can assess it on site and advise you on the appropriate removal pathway.
No guessing, no unnecessary applications. We check the property and the applicable requirements first.
What happens on site
- 1 Species identification Our qualified arborist identifies the tree or palm and assesses the site.
- 2 Requirements checked We confirm whether the vegetation is subject to protection or whether a pest-species pathway may apply.
- 3 Removal carried out correctly Where removal is permitted, we can carry out the work safely and provide the relevant documentation where required.
- 4 Cleaned up properly Everything is chipped, removed and cleaned up before we leave.
Important
Vegetation rules can differ between the Gold Coast and NSW, and even between individual properties depending on planning controls and other site-specific requirements.
That's why we check the property before starting work rather than assuming a tree or palm is exempt.

Every palm is a little different
The cost can depend on:

- 02 Whether it can be accessed from the ground, requires climbing or needs specialised equipment.
- 03 What's underneath it: roofs, pools, fences, gardens and other structures.
- 04 How much dead material, fronds and seed pods need to be removed.
- 05 Whether the palm is being pruned or completely removed.
- 06 Whether stump grinding is required.
- 07 Access for machinery and green-waste removal.

Questions we get asked
Do cocos palms need council approval to remove?
On the Gold Coast side, usually not. Cocos palm (Queen palm) is a listed pest species under the City Plan's self-assessable outcome SO5, along with umbrella tree, cadaghi, slash pine and coral tree. The catch is the exemption only applies once an AQF Level 3 arborist identifies and documents it. Casey holds AQF Level 3, so we can do the ID and the removal in one visit, no council application needed.
Tweed Shire (NSW) has pest-species exemptions too, but the rules differ from the Gold Coast's and can depend on the property, so we check before any work rather than assuming a palm is exempt. We'll tell you which side you're on. More on the council page.
Do you grind the palm stump?
We quote it alongside every palm removal. Palms can regrow if the stump's left, and the base is a tripping hazard, so most people get it ground out. It's on the quote so you can decide.
Cocos palms are the ones we're called to most on the Tweed Coast, and they're worth dealing with properly. Grinding takes the stump below ground level so you can turf or plant straight over it, rather than leaving a hard pad in the middle of the lawn that catches mowers.
Palm removal for a 5 to 8 metre palm generally runs $300 to $550, with grinding from $150 to $300 per stump depending on diameter and how far the root plate spreads. If you're taking out a row of them, the per-palm price usually comes down. Either way it's itemised on the quote, so you can take the grinding or leave it.
How much does palm pruning cost?
Palm pruning runs about $100 to $150 per palm depending on height and how much frond and seed-pod load there is. If you've got a row of them we'll give you a price for the lot. We clean up and take the mess away.
Cocos palms are the ones we're called to most, and the seed pods are the reason. They drop constantly, they stain paths and pool surrounds, and the fruit spreads the palm into bushland where it's treated as a weed. Taking the pods off at the same time as the dead fronds is what actually stops the mess coming back.
Most people run a yearly cycle, sometimes twice a year where a palm overhangs a pool or a driveway. Once a palm is past about 5 metres it's a rope or EWP job rather than a ladder job. See the full cost breakdown.
