What it costs

What tree work costs on the Tweed Coast and Gold Coast

The biggest question, answered straight. Real ranges, the seven things that move the price, and why a free site visit beats a number guessed over the phone.

A number matters less than knowing why.

Most people want one number. The trouble is, two identical-looking trees can be thousands of dollars apart, purely on access and what's underneath them. So instead of a meaningless average, here's what actually drives the price, and the real ranges for the Tweed Coast and Gold Coast in 2026. Leave this page understanding why your job costs what it costs.

Access and what's underneath the tree move the number most.

The seven things

What drives the price

01

Height

Taller means more climbing, more rigging, and more time. A 5-metre job and a 20-metre job are different worlds.

02

Access

Can the truck and chipper get close, or are we carrying every branch through a side gate, past a pool, down stairs? This is the factor that surprises people most.

03

Species & trunk diameter

Hardwoods like blackbutt and the local gums are dense and heavy. A fat trunk takes longer to process than a tall, thin one.

04

Proximity to structures

The house, the fence, the pool, the powerlines. The closer the target, the more controlled (and slower) the takedown.

05

Removal method

Climb-and-rig, cherry picker, crane, or a straight manual fell. The method the tree demands sets a lot of the cost.

06

Stump

Left flush, or ground out below the surface ready to replant. Grinding is a separate line so you can choose.

07

Disposal

Mulch left on site for your garden, or carted away. Tip fees and travel add up on big jobs.

A cheap quote can cost you more

Before you compare quotes

The cheap quote is the expensive one.

The cheap quoteunder $1k
No written quote, just a number over the phone
Cash only, no invoice, no paper trail
No proof of public liability cover
Lopper, not a qualified arborist
Our quotefixed, in writing
One fixed written price, photos and clear scope
Invoice, and a SWMS for the job
$20M public liability, certificate on request
AQF Level 3 arborist, L5 coordinated when needed
What a cheap quote really costs
If an uninsured crew drops a limb through your roof, that bill is yours.

Why crane work costs more

When a tree's too big to fell and there's no room to drop it, a crane lifts each section out cleanly over the house or pool. That means a crane and operator for the day, a bigger crew, and more rigging. It's the safe way to do an otherwise impossible job, and it's why a tight-access removal can sit well above a straightforward one.

What our quote includes

  • Qualified two-person crew and all gear
  • Rigging, climbing or machinery as the job needs
  • Full cleanup and green-waste removal
  • Stump left flush with the ground
  • $20M public liability, in writing

What's often quoted separately

  • Stump grinding below the surface
  • Tip fees on large green-waste volumes
  • An AQF Level 5 arborist report for council
  • Wildlife spotter-catcher where fauna is present

We spell these out on the quote, so you see exactly what's in and what's not.

Quote-prep checklist

A few photos and details up front get you a sharper number, faster:

  • A wide photo of the whole tree
  • A photo of the access (gate, driveway, side path)
  • Rough trunk size at chest height
  • Anything underneath: pool, fence, shed
  • How close the nearest powerline is
  • Any council notice you've had

Text photos straight to 0474 250 832, it speeds the whole thing up.

No nasty bits

What we don't charge for

  • No call-out fees
  • No quote fees

Straight answers

Questions about cost

Why won't you just give me a price over the phone?

Because I'd be guessing, and a guess helps no one. Two identical-looking trees can be thousands of dollars apart purely on access, what's underneath them, and how we have to get them down. A quick free site visit means the number I give you is the number, in writing, with photos. No surprises when the chipper turns up.

The things I can't see over the phone are exactly the ones that move the price: whether the truck and chipper can get within reach, what's under the drop zone, how much room there is to rig, and whether the tree has to come out over a roof or a pool instead of straight down.

What I can do is give you a ballpark from photos. Send a shot of the whole tree, one of the base, and one showing the access, and I'll tell you roughly which end of the range you're in before anyone drives out. The written quote still follows a site visit.

Do you charge for quotes or call-outs?

No. Site visits and written quotes are free across the Tweed Coast and southern Gold Coast. No call-out fee, no quote fee, and no on-the-day surcharges. The price on the quote is the price.

Here's what that looks like in practice. We come out, walk the site, and look at the things that actually drive the cost: the tree's height and species, what's underneath it, how much room there is to drop timber, and whether the truck and chipper can get close. You get a written fixed-price quote with photos, so you can compare it properly against anyone else's.

If you'd rather not wait for a site visit, text photos of the tree to 0474 250 832 and we'll give you a ballpark first. As a rough guide, small trees under 5m run $300 to $950 and stump grinding is $200 to $350 per stump. See what tree work costs for the full breakdown.

Why does access make such a difference to the price?

People look at the tree and think that's what they're paying for. You're actually paying for the logistics of getting it out safely. If we can park the chipper next to the tree and feed straight in, that's efficient. If we're carrying every branch fifty metres through a side gate, past a pool and down stairs, that's a completely different job. Access is the factor that surprises people most.

The specifics that matter are how close the truck and chipper can get, gate widths, steps, slope, and whether there's anywhere to drop timber without hitting something. A tree with a clear drop zone can be sectioned and fed straight through. The same tree in a courtyard has to be roped down piece by piece and hand-carried out.

It's also why two quotes on the same street can look nothing alike. Worth mentioning your access when you call, since it's the first thing we ask about anyway.
