A stump left in the ground is unfinished business. It sprouts regrowth, it gets in the way of whatever you want to do with the space, and over time it can draw termites in close to the house. Grinding it out is the difference between a tree being removed and a tree being gone.
We grind below the surface, not just level with it, so you can lay turf straight over the top or dig in a garden bed without hitting timber. Tell us what the area’s becoming and we’ll set the depth to suit. The grindings come up as a mound of mulch, which you’re welcome to keep for the garden, or we cart it off and you backfill with clean soil.

What affects the price
Two trees that look the same can be very different jobs. The number moves with these factors.
- 01 Stump diameter at ground level (a 30cm stump is a different machine setup to a 90cm one).
- 02 Root spread and how deep we grind, which depends on whether you're laying turf, a garden bed or paving.
- 03 Access for the grinder: minimum width through gates and side paths.
- 04 Number of stumps in one visit. Multiple stumps work out cheaper per stump.

How deep do you grind the stump?
Far enough below the surface that you can lay turf or replant over the top, typically around 200 to 300mm depending on what you're doing with the area. Tell us if you're putting in a garden bed or a fence and we'll grind to suit.
Can I plant or lay turf afterwards?
Yes. We grind the stump and major surface roots and leave you a mound of mulch. You can use that mulch in the garden, or we take it away and you backfill with soil ready to plant or turf.
Can you grind a stump from a tree someone else cut?
Absolutely. We do plenty of stump-only jobs, including old stumps left behind by other crews. Send a photo and rough size and we'll give you a price. Stump grinding runs roughly $200 to $350 per stump depending on diameter and root spread.
